A BETTER LAND THAN EARTH © 1978 First Published In Okike Journals 17, 1981
If you feel the world is too sour
And you want a better land to live
Other than the Earth God gave to you,
Then, I can direct you where and how to go-
A world of happiness, a world of your own.
All you need is a rope with a loop.
Climb that tree standing by your home
And let the loop embrace your neck.
Also let the other end loop on the branch,
Then jump, and you’ll fly to Your paradise.
But before you make the flight beware
That neither your intention nor desire be known
Lest passers-by with searchlight eyes scream
And kill that joy of your dream-
The dream of a better land than earth.
Rather let darkness be your guide
And fly in death’s solitary hours
When the earth is held in solemn stillness,
When Owls and Bats are about to direct you
And Spiders to spin the landing net for you.
