A PLEA FOR RETURN © 1976 – First Published In Okike Journals 17, 1981
The distance is short but long
The unpleasant separation hurts my heart
Making me feel I’ve done you wrong
You really are the Angel for my heart
Please return to me
Even the showering of rain on the roof
And the distant shrill of insects of night,
Keep singing your name on my eardrum’s roof
Warning that I have not done the right
Please forgive me
For then can my itching lips relax
And my wandering soul will return
That my arms will be on their marks
Embracing your Angelic body’s return
Please return to me
